*What is the schedule for the conference?
Sunday, August 14, 2022: Welcome & Orientation, 1:00 - 3:00 pm PST.
Hosted live and virtually at the San Francisco Writers Grotto
Monday, August 15, 2022 through Thursday, August 18, 2022:
**ALL VIA ZOOM**
9:00am – 12:00 Morning Workshops - fellows will meet virtually in groups of 8 with their mentor teacher
Morning, 12:00 noon – 1:00pm “Conversations” during lunch with Keynote speakers, via ZOOM. Open to all R&W Fellows, R&W teaching faculty, and Grotto writers of color.
Afternoon, 1:00pm – 4:00pm: Open, optional Zoom Room for all Fellows, with drop-in group writing sessions to share work. During the afternoons, the R&W faculty will also schedule one 1:1 meeting with each Fellow they are teaching to occur at some point during the M-Th class sessions.
Friday, August 19, 202, Flash Class Day!
All Day, 9:00 am – 4:30pm. Flash Classes of all genres offered via ZOOM, highlighting craft and professional development. The 90-minute classes are presentation only, with no feedback but faculty can opt to include a Q&A session if they wish.
Fellows are invited to sign up for four of the classes, and all applicants, as a benefit of their $25.00 application fee, may participate in one Flash Class.

2:30pm – 4:00pm
Friday, August 19, 2022 Reading & Meeting at the Grotto

At 5pm, longtime Grotto members Susan Ito, Preeti Vangani, JD Beltran, Maw Shein Win, and Celeste Chan, all Rooted & Written 2022 faculty, will read from their work. Register for this free event at here.

“Words of Color” Public Readings
Hosted live and virtually from the San Francisco Writers Grotto
A public live/virtual hybrid event—Rooted & Written Fellows Readings Each of the 48 Rooted & Written Fellows will have the opportunity to read 3 minutes of their work in a nationally screened program, “Rooted & Written Words of Color.”

*Participation Notes:
All R&W conference applicants may select one (1) Keynote "Conversation" to attend as a benefit of their $25.00 application fee. “Rooted & Written Conversations” will include the Keynote speakers reading and discussing their work in conversation with a selected Writers Grotto member for 40 minutes, followed by a 10 minute Q&A.

All classes and "In Conversation" Keynote craft lectures during the week will be virtual.
Fellows are invited to apply with a sample of their best writing in the genre of their choice. THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS JULY 1, 2022. Forty Fellows will be awarded fellowships and accepted to participate in the conference, at no cost. Once a Fellow has been accepted and notified of their acceptance by *July 18, 2022,* they will be asked by their faculty to submit the piece/pieces they want to workshop during the conference on or around August 1, 2022 .

*What courses will be taught during the conference?
Six genres will be taught in the 4-day class sessions: FICTION, POETRY, MEMOIR, NON-FICTION/ESSAY/JOURNALISM, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND SCREENWRITING.
The 4-day classes sessions will be offered as virtual courses, although the Fellows will also be invited to participate in the video sessions together live, at the Grotto classes space. The 90-minute virtual Flash Classes that occur on Friday, August 19, 2022 will offer a wide range of genres in craft and in professional development, including talks by agents and editors.
